‘Tis the season to get out and enjoy winter activities in our fair city. Charlotte offers exciting events all year around and winter is no exception. Granted, the holidays can be a bit hectic but you should still try to make some time to stay active (and have a little fun while you’re doing it).
Here are some fun and fitful activities in and around The Queen City this season.
What: Relish the magic of the season at SouthPark’s own Winter Wonderland, Charlotte’s favorite open-air ice-skating rink and ultimate Instagram photo op bucket-list destination. Winter Wonderland’s ice skating rink is now 40% bigger and features fun for the entire family including a daily afternoon snowfall, holiday lights and decor, as well as attractions such as Santa’s Pub. Join us for special events, guests and activities throughout the season, including our partnership with 103.7 WSOC to bring a Country Christmas to the rink.

What: Ri Ra is proud to sponsor Charlotte’s 1st and only ALL Santa race. Take a run, in the spirit of Christmas, dressed as St. Nick himself! That’s right, every runner will be provided a Santa suit to race with. In addition to holiday cookies, Santas will be treated with a pint after the race which is included with each registration. All profits from the race will benefit the local Charlotte charity, The Patriot Military Family Foundation. The Patriot Military Family Foundation’s mission is to honor our veterans for their service and commitment to our freedoms and to serve them and their families. They provide services to veterans and their families through a variety of programs including a Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) program and Homes for Veterans.

What: It’s not just a race. It’s a magical experience. If you are a Christmas lover, enjoy holiday music, candy and cookies along the course. Grab your favorite friends and family and register for the 2018 Santa Hustle® North Carolina 5K and Half Marathon! The swag is bound to make your jingle tingle even brighter with a Santa Hat, Santa Beard, Finisher Medal, and New Performance Hoodie! Make it a VIP experience and add the Santa Hustle® Mrs. Claus Package to your registration which includes a red tutu, arm warmers, candy cane socks, and two face tattoos. Santa Hustle’s National Charity is Toys for Tots! All toys donated go to children in need, so on race day, please bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Santa Hustle for Toys for Tots!

What: Over 40 miles of trail are calling your name… The Whole Enchilada pins mountain bikers against the entirety of the USNWC trail system, taking on Todas las Millas (all the miles) in this single-lap format race. New trails are being added regularly by the USNWC, allowing riders to crush through more and more miles each year. Riders looking to shred their way through a shorter distance can take on roughly half the trail system in The Half Enchilada.

When: Saturday, Jan. 12th, 2019 @ 8am (Whole Enchilada) & 9am (Half Enchilada)
How Much: Pre-registration – (Must register by January 10) $50 – The Whole Enchilada, $40 – The Half Enchilada; Race-Day Registration $55 – The Whole Enchilada, $45 – The Half Enchilada
What: Join the movement that’s taken over the racing world. Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k is coming to Charlotte on January 19, 2019! Start and finish amongst the biggest chocolate aficionados in Charlotte. Train, race, and celebrate with us all the way to the finish line. All kinds of chocolate treats will be served along the course and after the race. All participants will get a commemorative medal and jacket. Proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish.

When: Saturday, Jan. 19th, 2019 @ 7:30am
How Much: 5K – $49; 15K – $69; (Prices to change after Jan. 6th)
Even if you can’t make it out to any of these events, there’s still lots of winter activities that you can do on your own……take a walk to check out lights and decorations in your neighborhood, go window shopping (if you prefer something a little warmer) or just have a holiday music dance party at home. Whatever you decide, just have fun with it!
